THE FAMOUS GNOMES WHO HELPED THE MILLER OF CUSIO
The Cereal Growers Association of the Brembo area – Social Promotion Association – deals with the recovery and dissemination of ancient corn and mountain cereals in Val Brembana and proposes activities related to these crops at the ancient mill of Cusio, the only one still active in Alta Val Brembana, in operation since the 16th century.
THE OFFER
We will guide you on an interesting journey that starts from the history of corn, an ancient cereal that arrived from America and has become a fundamental part of the local diet and tradition. We will then show you the various stages of its processing: from sowing to harvest, from the didactic field to the dryer, the starting point for the transformation of corn, to the various stages that children can experiment manually, such as shelling the cobs and transporting the grain to the mill where we will see closely how the precious flour is obtained from the grain of corn, discovering the mechanism of the ancient mill of Cusio and its various functions.
Choice of different educational activities:
– Creating dolls or scarecrows or flowers with corn leaves
– The true story of the gnomes who helped the miller of Cusio: hunting in search of gnomes and laboratory for creating gnomes
– Laboratory for the individual realization of a small pillow or a mattress with corn leaves. History of mountain peasant life

The proposals must be adapted to the ages of the participants and agreed in advance. Other activities can be agreed in the planning phase.
